The RMS Titanic

Titanic Guest - Heritage - Titanic

The tragic story of the Titanic is very well known, and the recently opened Titanic Centre in the rapidly developing Titanic Quarter is a major attraction for visitors to Belfast.
The Quarter is very close to Templemore, and within the Titanic Centre Building the history of industrial Belfast of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is being told daily, along with the story of the RMS Titanic.
The Titanic, the largest ship of its type at the time, was one among a small modern fast moving fleet of luxury cruising vessels owned by the White Star Line – state of the art ships.
The sister ships to RMS Titanic were the RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic.
When the Titanic struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage to the United States just after midnight on 15 April 1912, with a loss of some 1500 lives, it was RMS Carpathia, owned by the rival shipping line Cunard, which was first to the scene of the tragedy – taking four hours to reach the stricken vessel.
